Another good one from Carr.This one starts with a mother and daugher getting away from an abusive husband and father.
He's a guy who's always had everything his own way.
The wife, Scarlett, has tried to get away from him before with daughter Holly but her husbands Father is a man who has control of law enforcement and the courts in the county. He's a powerfull man and a wife beater like his son. Scarlett has had to go back to Jason, her husband.
This time Scarlett has some help from a Madam X.
Madame X has forwarded her fifty thousand dollars and a gun.
Scarlett uses the gun when she's confronted by her husband as she and Holly are getting ready to leave. She shoots him twice. Once in the shoulder and once in the leg then she and her daugher run like hell.
The next door neighbor, a Vietnamese lady, tells her to go. Things will be fine. She has seen and heard it all many times. She knows exactly what Scarlett has been going through for years.
Mac and Archie are trying like hell to get married. They are at a local church and the female pastor has agreed to marry them.
Mac and Archie have told no one what they are doing. They will get married on the sly and in six months hold another wedding. A wedding where friends and family will be invited.
Gnarly went nuts when they arrived at the church. He knocked Mac on his ass and headed into the church. He's now in front of a door trying to get in.
Mac, Archie and the pastor get to the door and let Gnarly in. He immediately goes to another door and wants in. They open the door and find a body.
So begins another great Mac Faraday read.
This one has Mac, Archie, Gnarly, the pastor, assorted church trustees, David, Chelsea, Molly, Cameron Drake, Joshua Thornton, crooked cops, a trip to NY, politicians, murder, attempted murder, a warrant for an arrest, budding love and Mac, Archie and the crew in one hell of an ending.

I love this series. the storyline s involved and draws you in. you keep guessing who could be the suspect and then something else comes along. a sweat church trustee is killed in his church office. One by one each suspect is slowly cleared. then a killer is uncovered in the church family. now two murders to solve. the plot moves along well. the characters ate well developed and you feel you know them.
recommended highly for any mystery buff.
I am always looking for anything written by author Lauren Carr and have read all of her mystery series. They are very well written with a good setup for action and suspense and a surprise ending. There is mayhem with a rascal of a German shepherd dog that is smarter than many humans in the Mac Faraday series. I would recommend these to anyone wanting to enjoy a great murder mystery. These books are hard to put down and I usually end up reading all of it in one day and well into the midnight hour.
All the usual group of Mac Faraday's friends are together
again. Mac and Archie decide to get married in the local church
and when arranging the wedding with the local priest, a dead
man is found in the church office. The murdered man has no enemies,
so who killed him? Once again Mac and the local police solve the case.
For those who read Lauren Carr's storie, you will find this another
good story.
I am a huge fan of the Mac Faraday series. This is one of my top favorites, especially Gnarly's involvement. This 100 lb German Shepherd is one of the delightful parts of every story and I found Gnarly's antics funnier than usual. Just trying to get married is proving daunting for Archie and Mac. They plan a big formal wedding ceremony on New Year's Eve, but want to make their union legal prior to that in the local church Archie and Mac's deceased mother attended. How rude for there to be a murder in the same church. As always, this murder is not simple and the subsequent circumstances are full of twists and turns that are emblematic of the author's writings. There's also a bonus at the end that will have you crying from laughter.
I have read and enjoyed all of the Mac Faraday books and this latest installment did not disappoint. I love the characters (especially Gnarly), humor, mystery, and touch of romance in her books. I especially enjoyed her weaving two murder mysteries together. The setting for this book was in a church and part of the story dealt with church people, I appreciate the author's use of God without being preachy and humor without being disrespectful.
This was a very entertaining book. However, I do have one regret. I would have liked to have been shown more of Mac and Archie's wedding when they finally got to have it.
Lauren Carr has become one of my favorite authors. I've purchased all of her books and can't wait for the next one to come out.
I have read the first 8 books in this series. Some I have posted reviews and others not. The books are typical mystery novels. I enjoy the characters, Gnarly can often steal the limelight in the books. I can say the only reason I'm reviewing this book is because of the corpse's widow. I just lost my husband. No illness, and quite unexpected, so I can relate to losing the love of my life suddenly. Carr did a great job of including things like the wife believed he had the perfect butt and sexy eyes. The one I really liked was she hadn't been grocery shopping because her husband took over that duty. That is one of the hardest things for me to do. My husband and I made grocery day a date. We live in a small town and every three week's we'd go out of town to buy groceries. Larger towns with a Kroger or Publix were 40 minutes away. We'd eat breakfast or lunch and then shop. So, seeing the wife breaking down in the middle of an aisle because she can't find the syrup is so accurate.
Another good one from Carr.
