I can't get enough of Richie and his companions after reading The Dark Roads. I liked the back story and the twist was unexpected. I look forward to reading more! I really enjoy the author's ability to transport you into the story.
A interesting tale of what happened after 'The Dark Roads' but also what happened before. We follow Richie as he carries an unconscious Amanda away from danger. He is talking to Elvis, Buddy and Benny while trying to keep his sanity. Despite being shorter than 'The Dark Roads' it stills feels well fleshed out and answers most of my questions from the previous book. Hopefully book three isn't too far away.
This is a prequel/sequel toThe Dark Roads Richie is wandering the roads, in a brain addled state, after escaping some serious horrors. He is desperately trying to cling to his sanity and does so by telling Amanda a story about him and his friends. We're given a glimpse into the past of these four brave young men; learning how they came to be on the road to Alaska. Benny is finally given a proper introduction, and we can see first hand why he was incapable of persevering like his friends.
The prose is solid, and the author somehow manages to tell a great story in spite of the main characters mental issues. We float around within Richies timeline learning some important facts. It was nice revisiting these boys and learning more about how the world became a devastating wasteland. I'm looking forward to more, especially how Elvis learned to play the guitar. We were teased with it, but the author insists on leaving us wanting more.
He also gives us a teaser of the next book, Not This Thursday, and I'm ready for more! 😍 This one looks very different from his other books. It looks funny and figuring out the protagonists mystery promises to be fun.

This book proved to be a satisfyingly raw experience that I found both surprising and enjoyable. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a heartfelt emotional journey and an extremely good read.
